This is how to write a great message for a rental property!

It's time to start looking for your new rental property! Let's begin with the fact that searching for a rental property can take quite some time, given the current shortage in the market. But don’t worry! We're here to help you. 💛

First things first: how do you write a good and personal message to the landlord of a rental property?

Want to know which documents you need when renting a property? Check our tips here!

Step 1: What should you tell about yourself in the message to the landlord?

  • Your full name and those of any co-tenants;
  • Your contact details, phone number & email address;
  • Your pet(s), if any will be moving with you;
  • Your age and current living situation and location;
  • Your current job title, employer, work location, and how long you’ve been doing this;
  • Your income: this can also be an estimate;
  • Your own savings: if you have some savings, it's worth mentioning this too;
  • Your (possible) guarantor: someone who can pay your rent if you are unable to do so;
  • Your hobbies, sports, etc.;
  • Your reason for moving: moving in together, a new job, or another reason;
  • Your desired start date for the tenancy.

Step 2: Explain why you are a suitable tenant

In today’s housing market, landlords can often take their pick. So show why you’re the ideal tenant!

You can mention the following to prove you are a reliable tenant:

  • You are tidy and organised;
  • You try to keep disturbance to neighbours to a minimum;
  • You always make sure your rent is paid on time every month;
  • If you’ve rented before, you can ask your previous landlord for a landlord reference to confirm this.

Step 3: Tell them why the property is right for you

Have you found a nice rental property that perfectly fits your wishes? Mention this in your message too. For example:

  • Which property it concerns (address of the property);
  • That the area/city suits you well (and why);
  • That you like the style of the house;
  • Specific extras about the property (e.g. a balcony, a bath, etc.)

Keep it brief, and mention only the aspects that really stand out to you!
